For almost twenty years Philippe Bourseiller has been photographing nature from every angle: from the eruption of the Pinatubo volcano to vast deserts of ice and sand, he captures the earth’s subtlest hues and dreamiest of lights. Modern lifestyles however are threatening the earth’s fragile beauty. To encourage awareness and action, Philippe Bourseiller associates 365 photographs with a daily gesture to save the earth. Each of these actions is accompanied by figures and studies explaining the risks posed by our behavior and the positive benefits of these gestures.  Each day brings a new image of a wonder of nature along with instructions for saving the planet. Turn the pages and discover a genuine lifestyle ethic.

The Sahara is full of surprises: do you know the acacia, the tree that defies the desert?  Did you know that the peoples of the Peul tribe move according to the needs of their cow herds? Have you ever seen the deep blue of the Izouzaouene Mountains? From wildlife and history to human culture and geology… so many delights to arouse the imagination and open our eyes to the outside world.

With its spectacular dunes, stone fortresses and utopian oases, the Sahara is the world’s vastest desert. Its approximately 3.8 million square miles of sand offer a diversity of landscapes from Mauritania’s Banc d'Arguin and the colorful banks of the river Niger in Mali, to the rock paintings of Tassili N’Ajjer in Algeria and the Ennedi lakes in Chad. Through the beauty of these landscapes, the photographer Philippe Bourseiller was able to capture the subtleties of the southern Saraha; insentient and devoid of vegetation, yet capable of sustaining life. This photographic journey across the Sahara will tempt you to a taste of the desert, its life and its mysteries, while the texts written by academics will nourish your thirst for knowledge.

Patagonia, land of exile for gauchos, these solitary, nomad riders whose life is set to the beat of stock breeding and wool trading, the seasons, and the weather.

Traveling the wide open spaces of South America and visiting the estancias which dot them, Philippe Bourseiller draws the portrait of these men with great sensitivity, showing them fighting to maintain a unique way of life, with its ancestral traditions, on a land where Nature reigns. Open plains as far as the eye can see and thick forests – Patagonia, a land of excess.
The photographer pays tribute to this little-known land and its fascinating inhabitants.

On the edge of the Arctic Ocean, Greenland is almost totally covered by a huge glacial icecap. Fascinated by this exceptional country, Janot Lamberton, the world record-holder for descending into ice, has organized expeditions combining physical prowess with scientific research since 1989.

For more than 10 years, Philippe Bourseiller, accompanied Janot Lamerton on his expeditions into the moulins, these huge wells carved out of the glacial icecap. From these travels into the heart of ice, into the center of the earth, these magic, unexplored places, he brought back astonishing photographs, testimonies to a great human, and scientific, adventure.

Accompanied by texts written by Janot Lamberton, Alain Couté - a phycologist (scientist specialized in algae), and Luc Moreau, a glaciologist, this work will help all readers understand what is at stake for scientific research and how the explorers conduct their daily life.

Around thirty of Philippe Bourseiller’s most beautiful photographs have been chosen to illustrate several topics: the birth of volcanoes, the power of their eruptions, dangers and safety precautions, the beauty and strangeness of natural volcanic sites, plants and animals in the world of volcanoes, volcanologists and scientific research, mankind and beliefs.

A text in simple words and magnificent drawings accompany the photographs.

Testimonies to a world being created, volcanoes have long been the subject of beliefs and superstitions.

Expressions of the wrath of the gods for some civilizations, worshipped as a source of life and sign of divine clemency for others -- such as in Indonesia, they have been a part of Man's history since he took his first steps.

A sound and light show of Nature in movement, volcanic activity is of primary importance to scientists. Even though volcanoes no longer cause as many deaths as they used to, they remain a threat to many populations.

For more than ten years, Philippe Bourseiller has traveled to all the major volcanic sites on our planet. These photographs tell a story which began with the origins of the world.

To live fully the life they love at the risk of great suffering, even at the risk of death because of it – this was the tremendous choice made by the twelve women who are the subject of this work. They share a common goal of wanting to save endangered animals and striving to make respect for wildlife part of all humanity's conscience. Alain Bougrain Dubourg's investigation and Yann Arthus Bertrand and Philippe Bourseiller's photographs show the incredible strength a passion can engender.

In 1988, Stephan Peyron dared to do the unbelievable: reach the magnetic North Pole on a standard windsurfing board during the most dangerous and spectacular time of the year – when the ice breaks up. Philippe Bourseiller followed Stephan's expedition and his magnificent photographs give a living image of the ice floes, the currents, the fog, and the winds that never stop blowing.

At each moment, dangers must be foreseen and all the strength a human possesses is put to the test. But at the polar cap, walruses and polar bears play under a permanently sunny sky – the myth of the end of the world and the beginning of true freedom.

Like a signature on a blank page, the skier's track reveals his physical movement and mental spirit. With no modesty, the track is a testimony to the intense and furtive feeling of gliding. Smooth or bumpy. Fast or slow. Turning or sliding. These innumerable variations on movement are their author's expressions of the emotions they are living. The first book on gliding on snow, the 120 richly illustrated pages of "Apocalypse Snow" gives frozen images of the perfect gesture that leads from emotion to ecstasy, from the world of men to the universe of gods.
